Renovate: Building on a Firm Foundation

This week at Slave Lake Alliance Church, we began a two-part message series titled Renovate, presented by Ashley Wooldridge, Senior Pastor of CCV (Christ's Church of the Valley) in Phoenix, Arizona.

Using Jesus' parable of the wise and foolish builders from Matthew 7, the message challenged us to consider an important question:

What foundation are we building our lives upon?

Many of us spend significant time and effort improving our homes, careers, finances, and outward appearance. Yet Jesus reminds us that the most important foundation is not found in the visible parts of our lives, but in our willingness to hear and obey God's Word.

One of the central themes of the message was that storms are inevitable. Every person will face challenges, disappointments, hardships, and seasons of uncertainty. The difference is not whether storms come, but whether our foundation is strong enough to withstand them.

Jesus teaches that a firm foundation is built not merely by hearing God's Word, but by putting it into practice. Information alone does not produce transformation. Growth happens when we take what God has revealed and faithfully apply it to our daily lives.

As followers of Christ, we are invited to move beyond simply knowing what God says and begin living in obedience to His truth. It is through that obedience that our faith is strengthened and our lives become anchored in Christ.

Reflection Questions

As you reflect on this week's message, consider:

  • Is there an area of my life where I know what God is asking me to do, but I have not yet taken that step of obedience?

  • What habits, priorities, or attitudes may be weakening my spiritual foundation?

  • How can I intentionally build my life on Christ and His Word this week?

Continue the Conversation

For those who would like to go deeper, we have included the message video and a discussion guide that can be used individually, with family, or in a small group setting.

The discussion guide provides questions and practical applications to help you reflect on the message and encourage meaningful conversation throughout the week.

We pray that God continues His work of renovation in each of our lives as we seek to build on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ.
