Something to Ponder
Can you believe that we have almost spent six months in the book of John? With this being one of those rare occasions where Pastor Heath is not teaching us, what better time to reflect on what we have been learning? The common theme and focus to date has been what it means to be an apprentice of Jesus Christ or, in other words, a disciple. To BECOME like Him, BE like Him, and DO what he did, our vision as a church body of believers and followers of Christ. Let us challenge you with this thought as we enter the long weekend. Whether it’s spending time with friends and family, celebrating the season change, watching some playoff hockey (or not), grilling on the barbeque, doing yard work or just taking the weekend to rest and enjoy the great outdoors, we will have various opportunities to represent Jesus. We are here in this place and time to represent Jesus in and through our everyday lives as reconcilers and ambassadors. Every one of us. There is no such thing as a “part-time” Christian. Jesus didn’t die for us to live for Him on Sunday morning or at the mid-week study group, prayer meeting or other “church” activities you may have on your schedule. Instead, He died to reconcile God’s wayward children to the Father. Then, He went back to heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to live in us, to empower us, and through our lives to live His life through us to others. Every Christ-follower has a role to play, and with the Holy Spirit as our coach, trainer, and guide, we can be the beacon of light to a world surrounded by darkness. There are no insignificant believers and no little good works done for Him. We have not been born again to be spectators and consumers of the Gospel; we are to be the hands and feet every day. What can you do with what we have been learning about these last few months to be like Jesus, become more like Him and follow His example?
